SZA Camp Flog Gnaw Visuals

The team at HumanPerson Studio brought me on board to create some abstract liquid visuals for SZA’s headliner performance at Camp Flog Gnaw. I worked primarily on the visuals for Rich Baby Daddy, which were all shot in camera using a computer monitor and several layers of liquids mixed with oils. The final graphics were displayed on several different LED surfaces during SZA’s performance.
BEHIND THE SCENES
The visuals for Rich Baby Daddy were created using a combination of analog liquids and digital animations. Pulsing turbulent patterns were animated in Adobe AfterEffects and then re-displayed on a computer monitor. Trays of liquids mixed with oils were then placed on top of the monitor and manipulated by hand to create organic movements. The footage was then color corrected and displayed once more on the monitor with a new set of liquids over-top. A few extra passes were filmed through a layer of bubbles to give it a bit more psychedelic dimensionality.
